My name is Lori Berwald, and I am absolutely honored to not only be a member of Glam Girl Bikini, but also a part of the coaching staff. My journey with weightlifting, competing, and now coaching began just four years ago. I needed to find a place to channel my competitive spirit which had, honestly, been neglected since high school. I spent years practicing cheerleading, baton twirling, and gymnastics, for literally hours after school, which all came to an abrupt halt at graduation. I searched for ways to fulfill that passion, but it wasn’t until I found bodybuilding in 2015 that I found such an outlet.
Initially I started weightlifting with the goal of better health, but I gained so much more…… increased strength, better body image, confidence and independence. But, it wasn’t until Lacy (a trainer from my old gym) and my friend and now coach, Amy Ehinger, saw much more in me than i saw in myself, that i even began to explore the idea of a bikini competition. I believe that this is one characteristic of an amazing coach….to see the potential and beauty in someone when they don’t see it in themself. Subsequently, I stepped on stage in July of 2015 and haven’t looked back.
I feel blessed to be the wife to my wonderful husband, John, and a mother of 2, stepmother of 3, and have a great career as a Doctor of Optometry. What started as a hobby, and was something on my ‘bucket list”, has now turned into so much more. My career as an optometrist loves the science behind nutrition and bodybuilding and fuels my thirst for knowledge, it is the athlete in me that thrives in competition, and it is the pageant side of me that feels so beautiful and worthy on stage amidst all the glitz and glamour. I love to empower woman to be more than they ever imagined and I feel that so often we put so many others before ourselves. Remember, we are much more effective as wives, mothers and friends when we take care of our health, both physical and mental. So put on your oxygen mask first, step out of your comfort zone, set the example for others, and let’s find what drives you. Change takes consistency and time ladies, so let the doctor, the athlete, and the pageant queen side of me help you find your best, most fierce you yet!
